Accordingly, in the emerging world order in the 21st century, India has a remarkable opportunity to achieve an optimum global posture. At the same time, however, India has to face formidable challenges in realizing its true potential and capabilities. It is, therefore, necessary to ponder over what are the critical issues that have to be addressed and what kind of foreign policy would enable India to maintain its autonomy in international politics, secure its frontiers, cope with the challenges of cross border terrorism, eradicate poverty and sustain a growth rate of 8-10 per cent per year so that it is able to achieve the status of a global power in the 21st century. This volume is a modest effort to analyse and reflect upon the diverse challenges before India’s foreign policy. It has covered virtually all aspects of India’s foreign policy, which are of contemporary relevance. It conceptualizes the emerging challenges before India as well as enriches the reader with abundant empirical evidences to bring forth the significance of various challenges and possible responses.
